Here he is! The power-hungry yet supreme ruler of Destron City! Eggman was a scientist back in 2009, Earth, researching time travel. After his experiment goes wrong, he and his nephew, Colin Kintobor (Also known as Snively), are sent 4 billion years into the future. This accident, however, damaged the scientist's mind over time. At first, he served under King Maximilian Acorn of Apparate. Over time, Ivo began to go mad. The robots that he created to protect Apparate, he used them to perform a full on attack on Apparate. Sonic and Serina, who were around 9 years old at this time, were there with their parents who served in the Royal Guard. The twins got caught up in something and had their memories wiped. When they recovered, they remembered nothing of each other, Apparate or Ivo.
Ivo, or Robotnik as he was now called, began his take over, only to be coincidentally stopped by the blue hedgehog who didn't even remember him.
Over and over this happened and over time, Sonic began to regain his memory, beginning to hate Eggman even more.
Over time, Eggman built a couple of Sonic robot clones. Silver Sonic, Mecha Sonic, Project G.R.C. and the one who kept coming back, better and better each time; Metal Sonic.
Eggman is a supreme genius albeit a bit childish. However, he managed to take over Apparate and twist it into his own image of a mechanical utopia, so you can't laugh. Even Sonic couldn't stop that.
That, and he made the most devastating war machines in history: The dreaded Team Metallix.
